The International Film Music Critics Association (IFMCA) named the re-recording of Dimitri Tiomkin’s score for Dial M for Murder (1954) as the winner of the “Best Archival Release of an Existing Score – Re-Release or Re-Recording” for a 2020 release.
The team behind the recording were honored with certificates, Douglass Fake (producer/liner notes), Roger Feigelson (liner notes), Kay Marshall (art direction), and William T. Stromberg (conductor of the Royal Scottish National Orchestra).
The International Film Music Critics Association is a professional association for online, print, and radio journalists who specialize in writing about film and television music. The annual IFMCA Awards—first presented in 2004—are the only awards given to composers by film music journalists. The member roster includes a number of notable names (with apologies for our English-language bias): John Bender, Tim Burden, Mikael Carlsson, Nasrollah Davoodi, Dan Goldwasser, Randall Larson, John Mansell, Kyle Renick, Daniel Schweiger, and Steve Vertlieb.
“Dimitri Tiomkin: The musical wizard of Hollywood” at the Alexander Solzhenitsyn Center in Moscow will remain on exhibit through February 26, 2021. The exhibition covers the pre-emigrant period of the composer’s life, the history of his success in Europe and the United States, as well as his collaboration with Soviet cinema in the 1960s.
