Dimitri Tiomkin: Canciones Para el Lejano Oeste (Songs for the Distant West) by Lucía Pérez Garcia is now available from Editorial de la Universidad de Jaén.

The book covers Tiomkin’s songs for Westerns and features analysis of those songs. The Prologue, by Ángel Justo Estebaranz, a professor of art history at the University of Seville, mentions the author’s previous work and notes that this book is a continuation of her study of Tiomkin’s music that began with her degree from the University. Estebaranz then provides a synopsis of the work which focuses on Tiomkin’s songs for Western films. The back matter includes a list of songs, bibliography, filmography, and discography. A clever line drawing of the composer by the author is modeled after a publicity photograph.

A previous work by Lucía Pérez Garcia, Música de cine en femenino: Las mujeres en la filmografía de Dimitri Tiomkin (The Female in Film Music: Women in the Filmography of Dimitri Tiomkin) was published by University of Seville Press in 2022.

Both works expand on the author’s 2017 Seville University doctoral thesis, Dimitri Tiomkin y la música del western (1940-1967), now available for download. All of the works are in Spanish.

The book takes its place in the publisher’s Colección: Artes y Humanidades (Arts and Humanities) series for the study of sound. The eBook and paperback can be purchased from the publisher, Editorial de la Universidad de Jaén (UJA), for 8 Euros (eBook) or 22 Euros (paperback).
