Legendary, supportive, genuinely enthusiastic and insightful. A handful of words referring to Intrada Records soundtrack producer Douglass Fake after his passing in July that only partially convey the magnitude of his reach and influence on a worldwide community of film soundtrack aficionados, a close knit group with roots following the RCA Records “Classic Film Score” series conducted by Charles Gerhardt beginning in 1972, that would include music by Dimitri Tiomkin.

A three-hour long radio tribute to Douglass Fake and Intrada will air on Saturday, August 24, on KFJC 89.7 FM beginning at 9 a.m. with host Robert Emmett and guests to include Intrada store manager Jeff Johnson, business director, Roger Feigelson, and Intrada’s former graphic designer, Joe Sikoryak. KFJC is broadcast from Foothill-De Anza Community College in the heart of Silicon Valley and serves the communities of Cupertino, Los Altos, Los Altos Hills, Mountain View, Palo Alto, Stanford, Sunnyvale, and parts of Saratoga and San Jose. If you’re not in the area, catch the streaming at KFJC.org.

Intrada Records
With only a handful of independent labels devoted to producing film soundtracks, Doug founded and ran Intrada as a record label, as a retail store, and eventually, as an online store. From 1984 to 2024, the company released hundreds of soundtracks to devoted fans and collectors around the world. Undeniably, Dimitri Tiomkin fans received their share.
Earlier this year, Intrada released Tiomkin’s music score for Night Passage. This marked the company’s sixth release of music by Tiomkin with two more recordings in the pipeline.
A month prior to his death, upon hearing a forthcoming recording of Tiomkin’s music, Doug wrote to orchestrator Patrick Russ, “Wow!! Superb sound, magnificent solo playing, perfect conducting! My favorite theme (or motif) in the score is the chordal idea in 3M2… and it sounds clean and beautiful!! What an incredible release this will be.”
Years before he went to work as head of Intrada’s business development, Roger Feigelson interviewed Doug for a series on “Dynamic Film Music Labels” that appeared in Soundtrack! The Collector’s Quarterly in the 1980s. In the 1990s, Doug would write a few articles for the journal, notably on “Projects that Fell Through” and “Scoring Holly vs. Hollywood,” on his score for the film. Years later Doug contributed an interview with orchestrator Arthur Morton to Lukas Kendall’s Film Score Monthly wherein Morton discusses his working relationship with Jerry Goldsmith, a composer well-represented on Intrada recordings thanks to Doug.
Joe Sikoryak, a guest on this weekend’s radio broadcast, profiled Doug in February 2001 for a Film Score Monthly article, “Entering a Third Decade.” Joe has written a fitting obituary for Doug posted on the company website.
