Sony Pictures has released The Guns of Navarone in Blu-ray for the first time, in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of the film’s release. The 1961 wartime drama stars Gregory Peck, David Niven, and Anthony Quinn. DVD Talk reviewer Glenn Erickson notes, “Dimitri Tiomkin’s superlative music [puts] us in the mood for high adventure, and [builds] anticipation for a bombastic climax.” Among the bonus material, noted film and television music journalist Jon Burlingame discusses Tiomkin’s score. And, according to DVD Talk, the opening prologue music is isolated without voiceover.
