The heroic themes came out in droves at the Munich Film Festival “Sounds of Cinema” concert on June 23. The Münchner Rundfunkorchester spotlighted film heroes at their Circus-Krone-Bau concert in Munich, Germany that took place as part of the 30th annual Filmfest München.

The “Overture” and “Roxane (17th Century Blues)” from Dimitri Tiomkin’s score for Cyrano de Bergerac were among the choice works performed by the Munich Radio Orchestra conducted by Ulf Schirmer. Olivia Tiomkin Douglas attended the concert. Moderator Roger Willemsen kept the audience entertained and a panoramic tri-part screen enhanced the visual experience.

During the interval Matthias Keller spoke to composer Rachel Portman (“Emma”) about her role as a film composer in Europe and Hollywood.

The concert was broadcast live on BR Klassik. The audio in the link, below, for the two Tiomkin pieces begins at 21:40 and ends at 28:00.
