The American Film Institute Silver Theater and Culture Center is a three-screen movie theater complex in downtown Silver Spring, Maryland, just north of Washington, DC. It plays both current movies, as well as classic films.

Two films scored by Dimitri Tiomkin will be shown in July.

1. THE ROAD BACK (1937) is part of the festival, “Cinema and the Great War,” marking the centennial of the outbreak of World War I. It is being shown on Sunday, July 27th at 11:00 a.m. and on Tuesday July 29th at 7:00 p.m. (running time: 97 minutes)

2. FALL OF THE ROMAN EMPIRE (1964) is part of the Alec Guinness Centennial festival. It is being shown on Sunday, July 20th at 1:00 p.m. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the movie. (running time: 203 minutes including intermission)

The beauty of seeing classic films on the large screen is because this is how movies were meant to be seen. The AFI does not show digital versions of films. They run the actual movie as it was originally produced.

The full schedule of films can be seen at AFI.com/silver.
