Music from Dimitri Tiomkin’s scores for High Noon and Dial M for Murder were performed at the Hollywood Bowl during the Labor Day weekend program, “The Big Picture: AFI’s Great American Movie Quiz.” Hosted by Alex Trebek, the Special Concert featured a television game-style quiz format. When the correct answer was revealed, the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra conducted by David Newman performed the music accompanied by film clips.
The concert took place on September 4 at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. For complete coverage of the concert read Marilee Bradford’s article, “The Big Picture: AFI’s Great American Movie Quiz,” written for the Film Music Society.
Tiomkin’s music was first performed at the Bowl in 1930. Find out more about his other Hollywood Bowl performances. The composer was previously singled out by the American Film Institute (AFI) in 2005 when his score for High Noon placed 10th on the list of top 25 all-time favorite film scores as voted by filmmakers, composers, and historians.
